3 Weirdos and some devastating news

The high wind has put Liffey Sound off the air, meaning my much anticipated (and feared) radio show is cancelled for this week, I have other guests pencilled in for the next while, so won't be being my own guest for a while yet - for those of you who are devastated by this news, I advise you to have a look through the archives and see what you might like another listen of....
In my distress and dissappointment, I cancelled my voice coaching, fake tan, and drama lessons that I had arranged, and instead went, this morning for a four hour walk around snowy lucanland.
On our travels we found the following 3 aul lads of the weirs, weirdos all hanging about, loitering... Each of them found in very seperate locations.
The first one was a bit where's wally-ish - but by far the most impressive bird, if you can enlarge the pic - you might even see him.
The second was a pure Narcissus -posing over the water, all "I'm soooo beautiful" etc etc
The final one was a more sociable kind of bird, hanging around with a few ducks of all things.
There is a logic behind calling them weirdos by the way....

The Irish for Heron is Corr Éisc.
The Irish for Weir is Cora.
The Irish for Strange or Weird is Cor.

So in Irish - the bird is literally called a bit of a weirdo, because he's caught so often hanging around weirs, on his own, hands in pockets, whistling suspiciously....
Don't say you never learned anything from this blog.

We sometimes get a heron by the stream that runs by our front gate. I usually notice it when I've disturbed it, and it flaps up into the air.

sorry to hear about the radio cancellation, that must be a bummer.. loved learning about wierdo's though (one of my favourite birds). They look like terradactyles whne they fly, and there's a tree near us where they nest, loads of them together (a heronry or something?) brilliant things!

Well that's the New year ruined.

I like Herons in flight, always see them as a good luck sign.

I had to cancel my round of PR appearances, my book tour, my triumphant return to The Point. Let's reschedule, hey?

"A bit of a wierdo" has to be the best name for a bird ever!
Sorry to hear your show was cancelled....but at least you braved walking, I am personally being escorted everywhere and still crying "I'm to slip and die". Maybe I should just stay in doors.

That's good Feng shui having a stream in front of your house Dominic!
Thanks Watercts, wow the heronry sounds great, I only ever see them on their own, in fact I'm yet to be really convinced that there's more than one altogether.
I know TFE - things can only get better, after such a crushing blow.
Oub - let's get your people to catch up with my people, and run through our diaries etc etc
Reading Odyssey - strap cushions to your elbows, head and knees, and get out there, the light is lovely...
