Hair Time and Worries

I wonder sometimes if there's a definite amount of everything allocated in one's life, and if you use up your portion, then that's it, you'll never have any more of it? If this is the case one of those things for me would be Hair Time

When I was only a tiny teeny little various cushion - a pin cushion if you will... I had a most dedicated mother. She enjoyed doing my hair up, in a tortuous style known as pig tails. It took ages. She took great pride in getting the sides of my head looking like they had no hair at all - except for the so called pig tail tufts projecting from the perfectly symmetrically spaced scrunchies - the rest of the hair was pulled tight and the scalp with it, giving my young life a permanent teeny tiny migraine. I quite enjoyed the swish of them, I must admit. But I can't help blaming/ thanking that phenomenon for the fact that I take significantly less interest in my hair as a grown up than would otherwise be expected from a grown up.

Similarly, I was a stressed out young teenager, between the ages of 11 and 16, I worried ceaselessly, about homework, friends, food, boys, the environment, politics, the weather, tests, the world, the universe - to the extent that I actually have had worry lines across the middle of my forehead since the age of 16. Since then I've been less able to worry, and though I will stress about some things I generally come across to people as a relaxed type of person. I don't know - maybe I got it all out of my system then. An alternative explanation for the lines would be that my head was just readjusting to not having the skin pulled so tight away from the front of my skull and overcompensated in the bounce back.

Is there anything that was so overdone in your own childhood or formative years that you've completely avoided it ever since? or am I alone here?

Yes,and I am beginning to wonder if that's why my eyesight is so poor now.

Yes I have some such memories.
I have a twin sis and my unprejudiced mommy used to dress us exactly identically maybe sometimes with different colours.
As I was growing up I got really really irritated by this and these days I make it habbit I don't shop in the same place my sis does!
I think my sis feels the same about this because she generally avoids shopping when I am around! :D

In rural India, it is common to see pigtails fashioned the way you described it, and with a liberal does of oil as well.

I wash bathed EVERY sat night! Pure fastidiousness. Never again.

I sneak out my bedroom window FAR less now than I did when I was a teenager. And ditto to what TFE said ... well, except for the "completely avoided it ever since" part of the question.

This is so funny, Niamh because I have a post on "Blast From the Past" all about how my mother used to do up my hair in rags! to get the super wavy look, only I mostly ended up looking like (her words) "a brush-mop in a fit"!

I too have those same worry lines in my forehead - have had them ever since I can recall. Must be due to the fact that I frown continuously - it's not always a frown of discontent; sometimes it's puzzlement (okay, oftentimes it's puzzlement) and it also happens when I laugh and I laugh often and loudly.

If you'd like to read the hair post it's here: http://cultclipsgenx.blogspot.com/2008/12/most-wanted-rolling-stones-part-3.html

P.S. Thanks for signing up to follow The Kathus.

Yes TFE, it probably is.
Erratic Thoughts - I recently met a pair of identically dressed 50 year old twins, their mother was with them!!
Anil - thanks for sharing that, very interesting! maybe pigtails are a worldwide solution for the messy haired masses!! I'm sure she knew I'd just come home with spaghetti and chewing gum in it otherwise!
Niamh - yikes!! I knew people that happened to as well. I used to fill the bath with toys whenever I was let into it, so that probably helped limit my access to a more normal level.
Acorn, I admire your self control greatly on the former, on the latter - I'm not sure I'd like to comment.
Thanks Kat, mad rags!! Yeah, laugh lines are good anyway, will definitely have to check out that post.
Does Kathus mean no more invisible keepsakes at keepsakes btw? I get confused with all these multiple blogs!!
