Distractions and nonsense

I'm all distracted this weather - with winning TFE's marvellous prize draw, and getting other fantastic postcards and presents through the door, is it any wonder this blog is seeing little enough sense, I mean even less than usual, of late...

In continuation of this service - please find the below, below

Limerick for drowned foodstuffs

Oh what has befallen my Ortolan?
What happened the new fattened Prawn?
All drowned, casks of booze,
- they've been guzzled and used
- and you are the fool asking after em

NOTE: - Please post the Paddy K award straight to my home address - thanks.

Niamh, do I have to know what an Ortolan is to understand this?

Hi Titus, it might help...
An Ortolan is a small bird that people used to drown in brandy sometimes, just before roasting and eating whole, (that's not allowed anymore) similarly prawns are sometimes drowned in rice wine before cooking. It's still pretty much a nonsense poem as advertised, whether you know what an Ortolan is or not.

Wow, and there's me thinking it was an Irish supermarket chain. I feel brainier already. And quite stupid.

Oh, what has happened to my obsure foodstuff?
The Ramjam and the Oppsyguff!
I know they are real
(tastier than braised veal)
Oh, fuck it, I made them up, so tough.

(Its an homage.)

Oub - remember I was talking about the poetical variations? This is exactly what I didn't mean... But thanks for the laugh :-)

Boo hoo. I thought it was genius.

I love both limericks, feel that they are somehow stronger together.

And I feel you on the missing and drowned foodstuffs. You didn't mention it in your limerick, no room I suppose although it would have been next on the list, but I hate it when I lose a piece of biscotti in my hot chocolate.

Thank goodness for spoons.

a bit of biscotti in hot chocolate is never really lost Jess - painful as it might be - it all ends up in the one place.
Oub - it is of course genius, just not the exact kind of genius I was thinking of... that's all...

A delightfully weird limerick. I sat here for a while trying to think of another - but my mind is blank...

Thanks Dominic, I just knew the Ortolan had the most poignant poetic possibilities
