The Book Update - or why I'll never see TV again

So at last update I told you we found that I had 38 or so books to get through before I'd allow myself watch tv again. (apart from the absolutely necessary Fair City)
The situation has further deteriorated. Firstly because I ended up trading a book on holidays, and therefore ended up with one extra book. Also because I bought myself a vampire type book in Tesco last week, (in my defence it was the only thing without a knife or a tube of lipstick on the cover, and I knew the author was good - since she was the one I'd read on the hols), the reason I was buying a book in tesco at all was because I had had a particularly depressing coffee break in work trying to find something not sex or knife related in the tabloids. I was sent out to tesco during work, hey presto, new book in time for lunch. Problem was - the guys in work are into Vampire books, alot, so now I own another one, kindly selected from one of the guys' lockers.
To add to my collection, my cousin brought me a bag of really interesting looking books from a clearout of her own shelves when I met her at dinner in my aunties house last night.
I haven't counted, but I'd say the total now stands somewhere in the high 40s and that's why I'm having to read even during the ad breaks in Fair City...

Have you tried burning them?

You may not have noticed, but the fireplace is otherwise occupied, plus it's too hot this weather.

BBQ? Also is that a fireplace? I don't mean to be critical of your photographic technique in any way but I've seen clearer detail in cave paintings, deep, deep down in the cave without any natural light, or a torch and with my eyes really squinting from the pungency of the poo from all the bats.

At least you have a pile of books waiting to be read - I keep forgetting to compile a wonderful pile of books written by amazing authors. So, instead I read a lot of trash.

ps You are just showing off.

I'm off to watch the telly...

Perhaps I can help? I have a load of books here that I want to read but can't make myself start them. Could I put them in your bundle then at least one of us could watch TV - and Law & Order is so much better than Fair City!
I'm reading 'The Little Stranger' - suggested by Dublin DAve, and just when I'm really into it I find there is something weird going on in it - a ghost or something. I don't do scary, am afraid to continue, but ashamed to stop (anyway the writing is terrific.)

Go to bed Oub. You know you'll be sorry in the morning!

TFE - Too wet for BBQs, and I'm glad you clarified that you didn't want to criticise - could've taken that comment badly otherwise.
DO - alot of it is trash too, and my lazy half keeps wanting to read them first... vampires, angels and demons...
DQ - Little S is one of the pile members, read one of hers a little while ago - she's a great writer. Also met her at Dubland Writer's fest, and knocked over a cup of tea in front of her. There's my claim to fame.
Oub if you're still up, you should definitely try and get to bed now.

You could pretend to read them. This is what my boyfriend does with my blog. When I browbeat him into opening the webpage he scrolls down furiously, turning my pictures and words into a blur, and then proclaims that he's read it, and why am I still complaining?

More difficult with the analog books, but I bet you could flip through those pages pretty quickly if you really put your mind to it.

Matt, I bet it was Flanimals - but was it no. 1 or 2?

Jessica, Boyfriend sounds like he doesn't appreciate your genius - they never really do, I've given up trying to force mr vc to read this a long time ago - means I can talk about him on it anyway. The book situation is pretty bad though - I think he's secretly throwing some of them out - and I'm only noticing when they're the ones I'm reading right now. Ah well...
