Cork - at the cutting edge of technology

Ah Yes! I've landed home, to visit the folks and to avail of the mod cons handily located in their very house.
Being without the laptop for the last few days has been tough, felt like having an arm cut off, or a reduction in the available oxygen in the air. But here I am to recharge, and update. (with the parents in the background - offering such helpful tips about my own technical woes as "have you tried kicking it?") Am in the process of uploading the last 3 brilliant radio shows - and setting up a special radio blog where they'll all be there, in the one place, so you can meander a bit more easily. Mightn't be up till tomorrow with the speed of this computer, but as dad says "It's faster than yours anyway" - true for him.
In addition - here's the famous Coral Beach -

In other news - attended the fabulous Glór session last night, where Stephen James Smith sprung again - giving me 5 poems instead of the usual 3, with no notice. But it was alright, had a few half ready, and tho the gaps showed, overall people listened, it was a packed out crowd as well, so that was intimidating. Another intimidating thing was the knowledge that Laurie Leech was up later - had looked at some of his stuff before hand, and was feeling extremely out of my depth. Click here to see what I mean...
Domestic Oubliette also got up there, her glór debut - an honour to witness, and gave us her 3 am poem - jaw dropping intensity, read with great feeling - which everyone there enjoyed. We took off early - lots of sensible things needing doing today, and our fans having handled some of our hair to various degrees, but the most thrilling thing happened then. Laurie Leech shouted down the road to me, introduced himself, and asked me down to Galway to say some poems sometime at his poetry night. He liked my stuff and his stuff is brilliant... so yeah - bit of a weird feeling, but happy weird. And yes, if you were wondering, one of the TFE project's poems was successfully used too, so cheers Mr, will be getting back on that bus next week, somehow.

The new site is a great idea Niamh but could you not call the blog people by their real names? My legion of fan won't know how to find my show.

I know Oub, I know - shudder.
Uisce - I've changed the name on yours now - I don't mind what ye're called, thought ye would like ye're world wide blog fans to be able to find ye.
Anyone else want their real names used - just let me know

I know of one writer who loved the the way their name actually came up when they googled it after I interviewed em. Blog names are deadly but real names still count for something!

Who was the hair fondler?

OMG saw hair fondler in the butchers not an hour ago! I grabbed my pork steaks and my 2lbs of corned beef and legged it!

You've gone to Cork to use their internet?
Wish I'd known you were both reading, I'd have gone in. I could go next week. You going? I must sign myself up in November.

Congrats on the glór and getting the Galway gig, most impressive. The Dublin Dave Radio show was really good too, the whole caboodle deserves it's own blog. The only problem now is that dresser, it definitely needs a few beermats under the left side.

Oubliette - you only have yourself to blame for having such fondleable hair, should I not have given him your phone no. then?
EW - Will let you know if I am, Uisce's on, so it is a possibility, deffo sign yourself up for sometime, tis one of the nicest atmospheres to read in.
Thanks TFE, think it was myself needed steadying there, and not the dresser - a real dresser though, and that was really where the plates and cups of the house lived, I thought it was very exciting.

Niamh, I'll never forget the day we went to Cork. It was the day the Corkies came home with the cup. We watched them in Dingle on a box in a bar. I was one of the only two rooting for Galway. The whole of Cork went mad and we couldn't get in. Cops and barriers everywhere. and so we went to Cobh and looked at pictures of the Titanic. Next day to see The Kennedy clan. Lovely holidays. 2 weeks. Only rained once. Can't wait to go back. Kilfenora, Galway, Waterville, Connemarra, Somebody's Reeks, Dublin Fair City, Martello Tower, Gentlemen Baithing, Porterhouse Ale, My God worra place, worra people (°<:>°)

Sounds like you had a good trip alright - you really haven't lived till you've seen the soap "Fair City" though - make sure your next trip to ireland coincides with it's schedule - tues/ wed/ thurs would be the handiest way to get maximum fair cityness.
